I've been fighting a couple monsters recently. They have kept me from eating well, gardening, and giving away photographs. Captain Obvious asks, "But, gee Marion. Aren't those the things you want to live for?"
Just around the time I started IT'S DUN! I named my husband's depression The Gorilla. Once named it started to lose power. I just called to mind the story Rumpelstiltskin. Wisdom is ancient. I should sell T-shirts!
Monsters are not part of the present. They are worries about the future or helplessness from the past. Name it and BOOM! It's right here, right now. They aren't monsters any more, but behaviors that are keeping you from enjoying today. Changing behavior, changing attitude, changing yourself ultimately destroys the monster.
If you are reading this and you've been facing a monster, get out a nice, long sheet of paper and a new Sharpie. Battling the Monster Lists are encouraged to begin with something to be immediately crossed off as DUN! My list yesterday started with deciding to plant the primroses. A small list, a small skirmish, but monsters recede before Purpose.
Anyone reading this who isn't currently battling a monster, well, what the heck, start a list of Blessings. May you never be done counting them.
