Every time we'd drive to Erie from Pittsburgh when I was a kid, we'd pass the El Patio Motel. Boy, I wanted to spend the night there and eat at the Choo Choo Restaurant. What kid wouldn't with that big swimming pool? Isn't that the real test of a good hotel? Monday, January 6, 2014 was my birthday and our wedding anniversary. Guess where Terry and I stayed? Yup, a childhood dream come true. Another thing DUN!
I also asked for two more pillows. "You don't have any pillows?" When I said yes, we had two, but we wanted two more. "Oh," the gal said, "That's all you get. Two per room." After dinner, Terry and I snuggled in for the night. He watched TV while I read a book. Our evening was interrupted briefly when Terry called 911 because the folks in the room next to us were threatening each other with bullets. He had to use my cell phone because the room's phone didn't work. | The kitchen closed years ago...not sure how many. The only thing I could eat at the Choo Choo Pub was pudding shots. We met Chrystal and Joe at the pub. Joe graciously took our photo in front of the fire. We'd gotten the last smoking room available. When I went to the front desk to get an ashtray, the gal said, "Everyone is always asking for one of those." She handed me a Styrofoam cup. |
